LieuTenants: A vision for 2023

Improving the Waterloo Housing Search

Let us do the hard work of finding you a subleasor/subleasee; just tell us what you're looking for and we'll do the rest!

NOTE: Due to a lack of resources, Lieu-Tenants has stopped running for the foreseeable future. To contact us, you can send an email to hello at lieu-tenants.com

You might be wondering...

What is LieuTenants?

LieuTenants is a student (and alumni) led attempt to make the housing search easier for students. We ran a pilot for the Spring 2023 semester and learned a lot from it. Now, we're trying to take those insights and apply them to the different market conditions of the Fall/Winter semesters.

What is LieuTenants' Fall 2023/Winter 2024 offering?

You fill out a survey telling us what you're looking for, and we'll manually do the hard work of sifting through FB/Kijiji/other posting websites. When we find something you'll like, we'll try to hold it for you and send you an email. From there, we can either help walk you through the rest of the process, or let you handle it on your own. It's up to you!

Does it cost anything to sign up?

No, this project is being run as a pilot, and is completely free to participate in!

Why is it free?

Currently, we're trying to better understand how we can solve the problems students are facing, so we want to make it available to everyone. We'd really appreciate your feedback!

How is this better than if I searched for housing myself?

By aggregating preferences, we can be more efficient in matching people. Additionally, we've gone through the housing search process many times, so if you're new, we can help answer questions and guide you along the way.

I'm a graduate student/don't go to Waterloo or Laurier, can I still sign up?

Of course! We're happy to help everyone we can.

I will be on a co-op (outside Waterloo), can I still sign up?

Of course! We're focused on the KW area, so we may be less able to help, but we'll still help however we can.
